Serendipity

I find myself in this time of social distancing looking for moments of sublime normality. (Oxymoronic, I'm well aware.)  Perhaps reading a favorite book for the umpteenth time.  Rediscovering the delight in one particular set of window sheers.  Potting citronella and lemon thyme to discourage the mosquitoes and gnats from hanging around our door...even if that door isn't being opened regularly.  (Which reminds me, I'm not sure when I watered those last. 😳 I'll be right back!)

Beyond sublime normality rests those moments of absolute serendipity.  Those moments that cause you to say, "What a blessing to have this happen at just this time."

Such a moment might entail finally opening a Walmart bag from my mother from well over a year ago, perhaps even two (sorry Mom!), to discover several pairs happy socks (many sporting a Christmas theme) and...wait for it...NEW RED SHOES.  Say what?!  You read that right.  Those shoes have been nestled amongst those happy socks just waiting for me to stop being lazy and open the bag.

At a time when it would be unwise to go out shoe shopping, I open a long-neglected gift to find a new pair of shoes (and let's not forget the happy socks!) just waiting to be worn.  Thanks, Mom!

Not gonna lie, I've worn them around the house on a couple of occasions.  One day they may see the world beyond this apartment, but I don't want to expose them to this recent unpleasantness.  It's too soon.

The moral of this story?  Take this time of enforced homebodiness to clean out your nooks and crannies.  A serendipitous moment may be just a closed Walmart bag away.
